Trevor Andrews declared Lucky Street the best two-year-old he has trained after the colt toyed with his rivals in Saturday’s $250,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) at Ascot.
Stalking the early speed set by Chantski, Lucky Street ($2.60 fav.) accelerated clear early in the home straight and was untroubled in the run to the line to defeat Light Up The Sky ($14) by 2 ½-lengths.
Andrews said Lucky Street, a $75,000 Perth yearling purchase, will now head to the $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and $200,000 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).
Andrews won the Karrakatta Plate and WA Sires’ Produce double with Luke’s Luck in 2012 and said Lucky Street was a better horse.
“He over-raced a bit early and the enormous speed up front helped him a bit,” Andrews told The West.
“He has always shown us an electrifying turn of foot.
“Luke’s Luck had a top finish but this bloke is a super colt. He’s got a really big motor.”
A son of Oratorio, Lucky Street has won two of his three starts.
