Maiden galloper Boom Time has broken through at his 13th start to win the listed Schweppes-Melvista Stakes, with a bold ride by Shaun McGruddy.
Caught three-wide for the majority of the race, but on a slow speed, McGruddy took the race on and extended away, for an impressive 1.75 length victory.
After a promising third in the listed Roberts Stakes, Boom Time further showcased his improvement, with the Trevor Andrew’s trained colt showing his opposition up over the 2400 meters.
Race favourite Tonto presented as a genuine threat whilst cornering, but couldn’t showcase his trademark turn-of-foot. Say Geronimo bounced back after excuses in the Roberts Stakes, to finish very well into second, with the well-speculated Adam Durrant runner Quite Regal impressing in third.
Pre-post favourite Battle Hero was caught on the fence an in behind runners, over-racing himself out of contention as the leader Fathing Fast dropped back into the field.
Boom Time won in 2.19.65 and by 1.75 lengths, winning his first career race.
