Rivercrest Park stallion Ducimus has taken over at the top of the WA 2YO Sires’ premiership thanks to a lucrative $40,700 Westspeed Platinum bonus earned by Define Beautiful for winning the Magic Millions Plate (1000m) at Ascot on Saturday.

The Trevor Andrews-trained filly collected $43,840 in prizemoney and when the bonus is added by Arion Pedigrees to its tables this week, Ducimus ($100,100) will go past I’m All The Talk ($94,880).

Define Beautiful (2f Ducimus – Renegade Girl by War Chant) had finished fifth on debut in the Crystal Slipper last month and was expected to improve after being backed from $20 into $10 on Saturday.

“She’s a gorgeous filly and I loved her at the Sales,” Andrews explained.  ”She has always shown ability but was slow away and lacked pace today instead of going forward from the wide gate.  But I did tell Shaun (McGruddy) she had learned a lot out of her first run here.”

McGruddy hooked Define Beautiful (Photo / Western Racepix) into clear running on the home turn and set out after Sinful Living (Safeguard) albeit four lengths in arrears well into the straight.

“I sliced and diced on the corner but I could see the leader was giving a good kick for Willie (Pike).  He’s hard to get past anyway so it was a very impressive win.  I was actually soft on her and on the line she was stargazing.  She’s a very nice filly in the making.”

A well-built and well-balanced filly, she was bred by Rivercrest Park owner Steve Hoare and sold through Alwyn Park (as agent) for $70,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.  Hoare has all bar completed a 90 plus book for Ducimus this serving season and he has three fillies by the son of Snitzel in Book 1 at the Perth Magic Millions on Thursday, 22 February.

“Trevor isn’t one to get carried away but he loves Define Beautiful,” Hoare said.  “We have her full-sister going up to the Swan Valley and there’s not much difference to look at them apart from the fact one’s a chestnut and the other is a bay.

“They’re from the same mould but the yearling is a very clever filly.  She’s already there mentally compared to Define Beautiful at the same stage.”

Their dam Renegade Girl is a half-sister to G2 Lee-Steere Stakes winner Famous Roman (Danetime).

Ducimus also sired powerful winner Leading Taddy for trainer Ash Maley in the Morley Growers Market Hcp (1400m) at Ascot on Wednesday.  Ducimus had opened his account at stud when Leading Taddy bolted in at Pinjarra on Boxing Day.

Ducimus stands in the west in association with Orbis Bloodstock and he was Champion WA First-Season Sire in 2022-23.
