Ascot trainer Trevor Andrews has decided to pull stumps on an extended autumn campaign for All The King’s Men.
In the immediate wake of a strong win in the LR Lex Piper Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, Andrews was considering a start in the LR J C Roberts Stakes (1800m) on March 11. However, he had opted for a spell when interviewed at Pinjarra on Sunday.
“He got up off the canvas to win the Lex Piper (Photo / Western Racepix) but he’s been up for a while and looked a bit tired,” Andrews said.
“He’s a lovely horse with future and we will get him ready for a bright spring.”
All The King’s Men (3g King’s Troop – Huette by Demerit) has been in work since September for 4 wins and 4 seconds in 11 starts.
He claimed the LR WA Breeders’ Classic 1400m) last month and continued that consistency when beating Demolish (Rich Enuff) and Playhouse Patron (Patronize) on Saturday.
He was narrowly beaten when runner-up in the LR Fairetha Stakes and LR Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic in November. A $45,000 buy from Taunton Vale at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions, he has earned $577,300 including Westspeed Bonuses of $201,000.
His sire King’s Troop also doubled up with Finchy in the Drummond Golf Hcp (1400m) at Ascot last Wednesday. The 3yo filly was coming off a Belmont maiden win on February 6.
Finchy is prepared by owner-trainer Justine Erkelens at Belmont last month and her dam Silver Serena (Dane Shadow) is basaed at Gold Front Thoroughbreds. She has a yearling filly by Sessions and a colt on the ground by Awesome Rock.
King’s Troop (Redoute’s Choice) is a three-quarter brother to Snitzel as well as a half-brother to Hinchinbrook. The 10 year-old stallion is owned by Gangemi Thoroughbreds and he will be based at a new stud this year.
