Gold Citation looked another promising 3yo for trainer Trevor Andrews winning the Brunswick Maiden (1000m) at Northam on Thursday.
Facing the starter for just the second time, he benefited when the favourite Oscar’s Fortune (Rich Enuff) was withdrawn for refusing to load but it wasn’t all plain sailing once they jumped. Stewards reported he was caught wide and raced greenly in the straight while keeping up a strong gallop for Shaun O’Donnell to score by three-quarters of a length.
Gold Citation is a half-brother by Oakland Park sire Sessions to Arrum Boy (Demerit) who was a $260,000 earner for Hamlin Bay’s Steve and Darryl Litton. Their dam Gold Caviar (Bel Esprit) has a 2yo filly by Sessions and a yearling filly by Universal Ruler.
The Littons sold Gold Citation for $50,000 through J Farms at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions. The first winner from that draft for Waroona-based J Farms owner Janey Napoli arrived at the Group 1 Northerly Stakes meeting at Ascot last December when Home James (Maurice) claimed the Magic Millions Plate for Neville Parnham.
Napoli’s inaugural consignment also included Rubick Lass (Rubick) who was placed twice in Ascot nurseries for David Harrison in March and Five Down (Better Than Ready) who was runner-up at Belmont for Luke Fernie last week.
Trevor Andrews has a strong team leading into the new season. Promising stablemates of Gold Citation include Costazita (A Lot), Zaza Rock (Awesome Rock), All The King’s Men (King’s Troop), Paris Calling (Ducimus), A Lot Of Good Men (A Lot) and Krysanova (Bondi).
